A man is stabbed and beheaded in front of his wife. The injuries are not shown but the sounds and bloods splatter are gory.
The long fight at the end of the film is very violent with some gore and blood.
Reasonably tame compared to some of Takashi Miike's other films (Ichi and Audition to be specific) but still quite bloody and violent. Much of the films violence is contained to the battle sequences, however, some of the violence can be very disturbing and brutal. Not overly graphic but implicitly very disturbing sometimes and often bloody violence.
In two separate scenes, two men commit the ceremonial act of suicide by stabbing themselves in the stomach with a blade. The actual cuts are not shown but the sounds of the blade cutting flesh are vivid and graphic.
There are many, many scenes and instances of sword violence and death by arrows, explosions, fire, etc. Blood is shown, but it's all often hard to see due to the quick editing.
A family including a young child is shown tied up and then executed by arrows. Very graphic and disturbing
