The soldiers have what are described as lewd magazines and pin-ups in their barracks. They remove these early in the film and they are only shown in the background without any real detail up to this point. One of them is forgotten about, however, and a poster is clearly visible of a fully naked woman (exposed breasts etc.) for around 10 seconds until the commanding officer rips this down.

There are two female characters, who are repeatedly seen as objects of desire. When one soldier stays outside to talk to the younger woman another soldier tells his friends that he is keeping her for himself.

Later this couple kiss for a fairly prolonged time (30 seconds or so). The woman says she is going to bed and the man says suggestively that if she's hot she can leave the window open. When he is relieved of his shift he climbs into her room through the window. They briefly kiss before she undoes the top two buttons of her nightgown, which he is visibly flustered about. He takes off his shoes. The scene fades out. Sex is obviously implied but is not shown on-screen and there is no nudity.

An officer's jeep is sabotaged and crashes. The officers are surrounded by armed soldiers. Despite the threat, no fighting occurs.

Some prisoners escape from a military jeep. They run into the forest and the army officer fires at random into the undergrowth with a machine gun. Two prisoners are hit (one killed and one injured) whilst two more escape. The injured prisoner is shown to have a blood-soaked shirt although his wound isn't shown. The dead prisoner is briefly examined before the injured prisoner escapes. He collapses but receives medical attention. Later, he is shown in bed with bandages around his chest. He seeks to leave the barracks but collapses under the strain (the scene shows that he is quite out-of-breath and in pain).

There is a climactic conflict between the British and the African soldiers. The African soldiers fire mortar rockets over the barracks. The British attack these large guns and destroy them in a large explosion. No-one is hurt in either attack. On their way over to attack the guns the British soldiers encounter an African cook. One of them punches him unconscious and dumps him in a bin.

The soldiers smoke and drink whisky and beer frequently but in moderation throughout the film (the main setting is the officer's quarters, which contains a bar).

Local political protesters surround British vehicles in two separate scenes. The people bang on the windows and one of them has a blazing torch. The people escape unharmed on both occasions, however.
