Torchy Blane Collection

Journalist Torchy Blane and her fiance Lt. Steve McBride are trying to solve the murder of Tim Torgson, who was killed right before Torchy's eyes.

Torchy and Steve are investigating a murder/jewel theft with roots in Germany. She lobbies her publisher to underwrite her participation in an around-the-world airplane race because arrogant businessman 'Sonny' Croy will be a participant. Not only is he a prime suspect in the case, but the international itinerary includes Frankfort, Germany.

Angry that police detective Steve McBride is giving preferential treatment to his fiancée, reporter Torchy Blane, reporters from a rival newspaper plan a fake murder with the idea that Torchy's paper will print the story and look foolish, teaching a lesson to Torchy and McBride. The tables are turned when the fake murder turns out to be the genuine article.

Marvin Spencer, of the Bon Ton Department Stores, is missing, and Torchy knows how to find him. When she does, he is dead and she is the first paper to headline the death. Then she finds his girlfriend and the Star once again scoops everyone, including the police. This upsets McBride, but she hits headline after headline, until the trial is to begin. Then torchy is a follower, but she does not believe that the accused is even guilty.

Determined to scoop the other newspapers, reporter Torchy Blane convinces her boyfriend, police lieutenant Steve McBride, that the only way the perpetrator of a recent bank robbery could fence the stolen money is to exchange it in Panama. Torchy, accompanied by McBride, blundering police sergeant Gahagan and smarmy rival reporter Bill Canby are off on a luxury liner to Panama carrying a boat load of Los Angeles Leopard lodge members, one of whom figures to be the robbery suspect.

Notorious counterfeiter "100 Dollar Bill" Bailey has eluded police capture for fifteen years while passing off his signature C-notes. He brazenly passes himself off as Secret Service agent Charles Mitchell to McBride and McTavish and recruits police help in what they think will be a sting operation at the local racetrack to catch Bailey. Actually, Bailey/Mitchell uses the opportunity to exchange his phony bills for the real thing right under Steve's nose. Torchy, with the aid of a furloughed Gahagan and a German shepherd named Blitzen, is able to penetrate the counterfeiting ring.

Newspaper reporter "Torchy" Blaine and police detective Steve McBride are on the trail of an Oriental gang that has committed three murders. Also on hand is a fabricated Scotland Yard operative who is a phony, and has two others assisting him in an effort to throw the police department off the trail; they are trying to exhort $250,000 from a young rich man who is trying to marry a senator's daughter. A submarine gets involved.

Torchy Blane is investigating the political career of mayor Dr. Dolan, who has installed a corrupt leadership. She demands a new election, and after the opposition's candidate is murdered, she decides to run for mayor.

While in traffic court, Torchy bumps into Jackie Maguire, girlfriend of the notorious hoodlum Denver Eddie, who is sentenced to jail for shoplifting. Torchy gets herself thrown into jail by turning in false alarms and ultimately befriends Maguire. With police collusion, she escapes to San Francisco taking Maguire with in in hopes of capturing Denver Eddie. Steve and Gahagan follow undercover in hopes of collecting the $5000 reward as a down payment for house for him and Torchy, but not before Steve is spotted and Gahagan ends up in the wrestling ring and gets a chance to settle a score with an old opponent.
