The Crime Doctor Collection

A man's body is hurled from a car speeding down a country road late at night. It is discovered by some local residents and they take the wounded man, Phil Morgan (Warner Baxter), to a nearby hospital. When the latter regains consciousness, it develops that the presumed-accident caused him to lose all knowledge of his identity and not a clue can be found among his personal effects. Meanwhile, the attending nurses have nick-named him Ordway, and the name sticks. On leaving the hospital Ordway goes to live with Doctor Carey (Ray Collins) and the doctor helps him build a new life. He studies medicine and ten years later he has become a highly respected and successful psychiatrist. He is particularly skillful in the rehabilitation of criminals. In his work, he meets Grace Fielding (Margaret Lindsay, an attractive social worker, and falls in love with her. Eventually, by virtue of his outstanding work among criminals, Doctor Ordway is made head of the state parole board. A prisoner, Pearl Adams (Dorothy Tree), applies for a parole. It is refused and, in a fury, she reveals Dr. Ordway's former identity as Phil Morgan, clever criminal master-mind who worked with a gang including Pearl. Morgan was the one who put the money from a $200, 000 payroll robbery. Later, when the gang met in Morgan's hotel room, the valise was empty. Unknow to Morgan, the gang-leader,Emeillo Caspair, had switched suitcases on Morgan. Accussing Morgan of double-crossing them the gang had taken him for a one-way ride and thought they had killed him. Ordway resigns as head of the parole board. Through Pearl he meets with the gang members at the same hotel room, still thinking he has the stolen money, and asks them to reconstruct the events of the robbery that night. The reconstruction reveals the true culprit but in a struggle he is hit on the head and that causes him to regain his memory. He turns himself and the gang over to the police. A trial is held and on the record of his new life, Dr. Ordway is exonerated.

On a lecture/vacation visit to Paris, Dr. Ordway drops in on his friend, the Prefecture of Police. He becomes involved in a case involving the stabbing of an old man. The man's son, not all that mentally stable, believes he killed his own father in a rage because his father disliked his new bride, the daughter of a cabaret knife-thrower. Investigating the case, Ordway finds that the business of the legal copying art masterworks may also be involved.

In the 6th entry of Columbia's "Crime Doctor" series, Dr. Robert Ordway (Warner Baxter) is consulted by an ex-serviceman who tells him he suffers from temporary loss of memory spells and during these periods finds himself in an unfamiliar part of the city. Ordway visits the area late one night and finds his patient murdered. He meet the man's fiancée, Irene Cotter (Ellen Drew), who has a problem of her own. She has a sister Natalie ('Ellen Drew')) who has completely dominated her life but she hasn't seen her for three years.

The Crime Doctor must prove the innocence of an artist accused of murdering his model during one of his blackout spells.

In the second film of the series, radio's crime expert, Dr. Robert Ordway (Warner Baxter), reformed criminal, examines the mysterious death, by poison, of a retired real estate agent, while also proving the innocence of a young man who has a reputation for experimenting with poison.

Dr. Ordway investigates the death of man whose first two wives were murdered.

Dr. Ordway tries to prove that his patient was framed for arson.

In the 7th film of the "Crime Doctor" series based on the radio program, Dr. Robert Ordway (Warner Baxter) is summoned to take attend a diabetic, and gives an injection of insulin taken from a bottle in the patient's pocket. The man dies and Ordway discovers that what he thought was insulin was really poison. Oops! Two other people are murdered before Ordway discovers who replaced the insulin with poison and what the motive was.

In the 8th film of Columbia's "Crime Doctor" series, Dr. Robert Ordway is vacationing in the Blue Ridge Mountains district of West Virginia when a typhoid epidemic breaks out. Three deaths occur with the first two being typhoid-caused but the death of the third person, Ward Beachey, is a case of poisoning. Orday learns that Beachey was the town Romeo with many enemies and that most of those had access to the poison. Doc Millerson, who has a suspicion who the guilty party is, receives a note in a woman's handwriting requesting a meeting at the river bank. He goes there and is killed in an ambush by a rifle shot. Following the note as a clue, Ordway visits the house of Ezra Minnich and traps Minnich's young daughter into confessing that her father made her write the note. Minnich confesses he had killed Beachey for trying to break up his home and Doc Millerson because he suspected him.
