Stranded penniless in a small Wyoming town, Maisie Ravier flirts with Slim, the manager of Clifford Ames' ranch. Disgusted by Maisie's flirtation, Slim orders her to leave town. Maisie meets up with Ames and his adulterous wife Sybil, and gets hired as their maid. After Ames is in an auto accident, Maisie finds Sybil with lover, Richard. That night, Slim and Maisie declare their love for each other. Ames discovers Sybil's infidelity and kills himself. Sybils gets her revenge on Maisie, telling Slim that Ames and Maisie were lovers. An argument erupts between Slim and Maisie, resulting in Maisie leaving town. Maisie soon learns that Slim is on trial for Ames' murder.

Street-smart Maisie from Brooklyn lands a job at an airplane assembly plant during WWII and falls in love with handsome pilot "Breezy" McLaughlin. Breezy, however, falling in love with and getting engaged to Maisie's conniving roommate Iris, doesn't realize she's using him and it's up to Maisie to convince him.

In this adaptation of the novel "Congo Landing," showgirl Maisie Ravier is left stranded in an African village. She's given refuge by Michael Shane, an attractive, but hard-boiled local doctor. She soon finds herself playing Dear Abby for a visiting doctor and his wife, warding off an attack by natives, and trying to get Shane to warm up to her.

Parting company with her on-stage partner Professor Orco partly due to the job being potentially hazardous to her health, streetwise but kind-hearted vaudeville performer Maisie Ravier, in Chicago, goes on a search for another job. That search takes her to a commercial building where a talent agency is located. There, she encounters many people that will play a role in her immediate future. The first is Hap Hixby, a young man who is trying to break into show business with a somewhat corny comedy routine. The second is Pappy Goodring, the building manager who has a heart of gold and who has troubles collecting rent from most of the tenants, which irks his boss, the officious Mr. Stickwell. And third is Marshall Denningham, who owns his own bottled water business and who is one of the few tenants in the building who seems to be able to make his rent payments on time. Of the opportunities that come her way, she accepts Hap's offer to be his on-stage partner, as she would like another performing gig, and she is falling for Hap. What may be obstacles in a Maisie/Hap happy ending are Hap's abilities or inabilities as a stage performer, Hap getting in over his head with a business venture, and a young woman named Elsie McIntyre, Hap's girl back home.

While streetwise but kindhearted showgirl Maisie Ravier is working performing in a carnival, wealthy but irresponsible Bob Ralston, who is drunk most of the time, is the direct cause of her losing her job. A series of events leads to Maisie and Bob facing each other in court. Although Maisie is the one charged, the judge orders Bob to offer Maisie a job to make up for her predicament, that job to be $25/week for two months, the conditions of that lost carnival job. With nothing else to offer her, Bob brings her home to the sprawling Ralston mansion for Maisie to be one of the domestics under the direction of head manservant, Walpole, who has been employed by the Ralstons for thirty years. Maisie's arrival at the mansion coincides with Bob's sister, Abby Ralston, holding a weekend long party to announce her engagement to Link Phillips. Abby is a sweet but naive girl, who doesn't seem to match in behavior, attitude or temperament to her mansion full of pretentious friends. Abby also longs for the attention of her and Bob's father, the largely absent Cap Ralston, who believes that lavishing his children with money and gifts is an adequate replacement for not being a direct, active and present part of their lives. Maisie can see that Phillips is a cad who doesn't really love Abby. Maisie, who is already walking a fine line in this new position being a fish out of water both with respect to not knowing the finer details of being a domestic and how to interact with the jet set, has to decide what part she will or can play in making things seem right in her own eyes within the Ralston family.

Young undefeated boxer Terry Dolan, who's been lying to his invalid mother about his career, confides to Maisie that he hates and is terrified by boxing and wants out. Not wanting to let down his best friend and manager Skeets Maguire, who has hopes of him becoming the next champion, he is reluctant to bring up the subject with him. Maisie convinces Terry to tell Skeets, whose unexpected reaction induces him to step into the ring again.

Maisie becomes attached to a dirt-poor farmer and his family as they try to make ends meet joining hundreds of others digging for gold in a previously panned-out ghost town.

Streetwise but kind-hearted Maisie Ravier has put her vaudeville life behind her, but not its associated outward good looks, flash and glamor. Trying to get to New York for a job, she instead gets stranded in Los Angeles literally with only the clothes on her back. Lt. Paul Scott of the LAPD bunco squad sees in Maisie what he believes would be assets to his team. Paul is eventually able to convince his boss, Captain Mead, that he is not interested in her on a romantic basis, and as such, Maisie is placed on the fast track program through the necessary training. During the training, Maisie learns that Paul is a hard-nosed, straight laced and outwardly unfeeling man, where she finds Officer Chip Dolan, who was formerly in bunco and is trying to get back into the squad, is more a kindred soul. If Maisie is able to make it through the training, she may get to work on the case of fortune teller who is swindling people out of vast sums of money, but not through the fortune readings in and of themselves. But working in bunco, Maisie will have to ensure that in addition to her training, that she uses her street smarts more than she exhibits her kind heart. The latter asset may however uncover the true nature of one of her colleagues.

Maisie is overworked at her defense job and is ordered to take a two week vacation. When she meets Tommy, he offers her a job singing with his band in Reno, but she has to get there on her own. So at the bus station, she finds a ticket and a soldier who gives her a letter for his wife, Gloria, who is in Reno waiting for a divorce. Maisie gets the letter delivered to a woman who says that she is Gloria, but she is not. When Maisie learns of the ruse, she knows something is wrong and can not be dissuaded from investigating.

In the ninth entry of this ten-film series, Maisie (Ann Sothern) graduates from business college and disguises herself as a spinsterish frump in order (based on eight past experiences) to keep wolfish prospective employees in line. She gets a job with Joseph Morton (George Murphy) who, with some other returning vets, has perfected an automatically-controlled helicopter. A double-crossing tycoon tries to beat the boys out of their invention, but Maisie discovers the plot and all ends well, but not before Maisie finds herself piloting the helicopter through downtown Los Angeles to a landing in the Pasadena Rose Bowl.
