MGM's Lassie Collection

Hard times came for Carraclough family and they are forced to sell their dog to the rich Duke of Rudling (Nigel Bruce). However, Lassie (Pal), the dog, is unwilling to leave the young Joe Carraclough (Roddy McDowall) and sets out on the long and dangerous journey in order to rejoin him.

Bill (Pal) gets separated from his litter, making friends with the wild creatures until he's found and adopted by young Kathie Merrick (Dame Elizabeth Taylor). An accident separates him from her, and he's drafted into K-9 duty in the trenches until battle fatigue takes its toll and he turns vicious. And even though he finds his way back home, he may be condemned as a killer.

Laddie and Lassie, his son, live in England in the dog kennel of the Duke of Radling (Nigel Bruce) managed by Sam Caraclough (Donald Crisp). After World War II begins, the dog kennel is taken over by the War Department under the management of the kennel man Sam. His son, Joe Caraclough (Peter Lawford), is in love with the Duke's daughter, Priscilla (June Lockhart). Joe is sent off to pilot training and ultimately stationed at an air base during the war. In the meantime, Lassie is deemed untrainable as a war dog. Notably, he appeared gun shy and would not attack a man. Lassie then manages to run away several times to reunite 40 miles away with her owner Joe. During one such visit, he hides in Joe's airplane and is undiscovered until they are in the air during a reconnaissance flight. The plane is disabled by airborne flack and they have to parachute out with Joe holding Lassie. They are then stranded in the middle of Nazi-occupied Norway but are separated accidentally. During Lassie's attempts to track Joe, Lassie almost leads the Nazi soldiers right to Joe but both manage to escape separately. At one point, Nazis use Lassie to identify Joe from among a group of Norwegian laborers. Joe is captured but, before they return to the Nazi camp, Lassie protects Joe from being shot by Lassie attacking the Nazi soldier, and they escape again. They both sneak away on a sailboat, and return to England to be reunited with Priscilla, Lassie and his father Sam.

In Edinburgh in 1860, sheep herder Jock Gray finds a Collie puppy on the loose. When she is unclaimed, he takes her as his own and calls her Lassie. They are soon inseparable but when Jock dies and is buried in an unmarked grave, Lassie takes to sleeping in the churchyard to be near him. Jock's good friend John Traill is prepared to find a good home for Lassie but no matter how hard he tries, she always manages to get away and despite any obstacles put in her way, manages to get back to Jock's grave. It all comes to a head when a local magistrate orders her destroyed for not having a license leading Traill to take his case to a higher court.

A Lassie movie. After years of prospecting, Jonathan finally strikes gold. He returns to town only to discover that his partner has since died and left Tommy fatherless. He decides to leave Shep (played by Lassie) with Tommy to cheer him up. Meanwhile, Jonathan's new partner, Lin, isn't interested in sharing the gold, and lures Jonathan to his death. Lassie immediately deduces what's happened, so Lin poisons Lassie. Lassie barely pulls through and pursues Lin to a climactic confrontation where, due to an off-screen accident with some liquid nitrogen, Lin's gun jams.

Set in the rural south of the United States, a bereaved war widow learns to to put aside her bitterness and grief as she grows to love a young orphan boy and the dog that belonged to her late son. Punctuated with song-filled interludes.

William McClure is the villlage doctor in a remote Scottish glen. Tricked into buying Lassie, a collie afraid of water, he sets about teaching her to swim. At the same time he has the bigger problem that he is getting older and must ensure the glen will have a new local doctor ready.
